The objective of thesis was to increase the use of a break exercise app and to get passive end users to be more active. Sitting at work has increased in modern times and we can see its injurious effects on the national economy. The object of the commissioned company of this thesis is to offer a break exercise app for people who work in desk jobs sitting, so that people would do more break exercise during the workday. The objective of this thesis is to develop employer company’s processes, so that the existing clients would feel the app is working and reducing the injurious effects of sitting. The framework of thesis is theory of behavioral sciences and based on those theories the decision-making process of the end user and biases affecting the decision making has been defined. Also, the break exercise app has been valuated based on the EAST-model. The decision-making process and biases affecting it have been found based on interviews with founders of the employer company and testing of the service. Based on theory a study was done where different kinds of nudge messages were sent by email to three different intervention groups, that all used the break exercise app. The chosen participants were passive and from three different client companies. The study was executed as randomized controlled trial, and therefore included also a control group. The results of the study were that there was no significant difference between the intervention groups. The sample of the study was quite small so with a bigger sample, there might be significant differences. End users that did make a change were all women and the nudge implied to affect the social environment made the most people to move. Because there were no significant differences in randomized controlled trial between the intervention groups, a questionnaire was done that was directed to people who work in a desk job. The aim of the questionnaire was to define how much break exercise is done, what motivates people to exercise and what makes it difficult to do break exercise. The conclusion of the answers of the questionnaire were that many of the people were motivated to do break exercise. The participants thought that reminders and insertion of self-discipline would help with adding break exercise. Women’s part of the effect of social environment was bigger than with men in this study as well. Based on both studies a development proposal was produced to the commissioned company. The development proposal was done based on the EAST-model with the aim of making it easier to use the app. A new study of sending nudge messages and following up with the results is also considered. It would be recommendable to execute the study as a randomized controlled trial so that it would be possible to find significant differences. Therefore, a follow-up research proposition is that the research is carried out with a bigger sample....
